ISR reconnaissance drone delivered to Estonian Defence League

The Estonian Defence League has received a new ISR unmanned aircraft system, delivered with the support of the Reservists’ Fund and Threod Systems. The ISR reconnaissance drone was formally handed over at an event held at the Nurmsi drone centre on 1 December 2025.

During the event, flights were conducted to simulate reconnaissance and combat missions, demonstrating how the new system supports situational awareness and decision-making. Guests followed flights on screens displaying the live video feed from the aircraft’s camera and were given an overview of the system’s main functions and mission scenarios.

Threod’s operators provided briefings on the aircraft, its payloads and operational use cases, and engaged in discussions with participants about the role of unmanned systems in contemporary defence.

“In this project, we see a clear example of how citizens’ support, the commitment of reservists, the Defence League and the capabilities of the defence industry can be brought together to strengthen Estonia’s security,” said Arno Vaik, Chief Executive Officer of Threod Systems.

In his remarks at the event, Arno Vaik underlined the importance of long-term cooperation between the defence industry, the Reservists’ Fund and the Estonian Defence League. To symbolically mark the handover, he presented a custom pitot cover, an “ignition key” in aviation terms, to Major General Ilmar Tamm, Commander of the Estonian Defence League. The gesture underscored the shared message that every contribution, whether from donors, reservists or industry, adds to Estonia’s deterrence and resilience.

The President of the Republic of Estonia, Alar Karis, attended the ceremony and symbolically launched the first take-off of the new ISR drone, signalling strong national-level support for developing modern unmanned capabilities for Estonia’s defence.

Threod regards the cooperation with the Reservists’ Fund and the Estonian Defence League as part of a broader, long-term partnership aimed at strengthening Estonia’s defence through the use of unmanned aircraft systems.
